The International Immunocompromised Host Society (ICHS) began as a group of like-minded physicians interested in providing educational opportunities for physicians treating immunocompromised patients around the world. Initially, the meetings were held without a president, but in 1985 the society was incorporated for the purpose of creation and dissemination of clinical and scientific information pertaining to the treatment of the immunocompromised patient.
See: "Four decades of the International Immunocompromised Host Society: memories and reflections of past presidents" , compiled by Dimitrios Kontoyiannis as a commemoration for the 20th meeting in Athens, Greece.
